NEWCASTLE'S reserves claimed a notable success today as they won the prestigious international sevens tournament in Hong Kong.
Having won their qualifying group on Saturday courtesy of victories over HKFA Dragons, HKFC and Aston Villa, Willie Donachie's side claimed a 2-1 win over Celtic in today's quarter-final.
The semi-final pitted them against Sunderland, and after a tight encounter, a late goal from Adam Campbell secured a 1-0 success.
Newcastle met Aston Villa again in the final, which was staged at the Happy Valley home of Hong Kong FC.
Campbell broke the deadlock, scoring for the third game in succession, before Brad Inman extended the Magpies' lead. A late own goal from Paul Dummett gave Villa hope, but Newcastle held on to lift the trophy.
Newcastle squad: Jak Alnwick, James Tavernier, Paul Dummett, Lubomir Satka, Steven Logan, Brandon Miele, Marcus Maddison, JJ Hooper, Adam Campbell, Brad Inman.
