Darlington keen for a home game

Darlington hope to rearrange Saturday's postponed Blue Square Bet Premier match with Wrexham before the end of the month.

Cash-strapped Quakers are now scheduled to be without a home fixture until March 3 unless a game with the Red Dragons can be swiftly fixed up.

Saturday's game was postponed on Friday and Andy Morrell, the Wrexham manager, said: "I'm glad they made the decision early which is best for everybody.

"There's nothing we can do about postponements but it's tough on Darlington because they need the money.

"Fortunately they called it off early so they don't have to pay for food and our travel up there if it had been called off late.

"So it was the sensible thing to do and I think they are going to try and rearrange it before the end of the month."

Both Darlington and Wrexham are looking at Tuesday, February 28 as a proposed date, the same night as England C face their Italy counterparts at Fleetwood Town so they would need special dispensation from the Football Conference.

The league's ruling body usually keep international weeks free of domestic fixtures.

Darlington are at sixth-placed Southport tomorrow evening before travelling to Alfreton on Saturday and then Mansfield a week tomorrow.

In the absence of a competitive game on Saturday, they staged a friendly with Northallerton Town.

The game played on an all-weather surface at Longfield School in Darlington.

Quakers, who made a number of substitutions at the break, won 4-2 thanks to goals from Ryan Bowman (2), Danny Lambert and Chris Dickinson. Northallerton's scorers were Nathan Hemmingbrough and Martin Butterworth.

Darlington: Nixon, Gray, Harrison, Taylor, Brown, Rundle, McReady, Ramshaw, Bridge-Wilkinson, Hopson, Bowman
