NEWCASTLE captain Kevin Nolan is close to completing a shock move to West Ham after travelling to London to undergo a medical at Upton Park.

Nolan's future on Tyneside has been in doubt ever since contract talks broke down with owner Mike Ashley and managing director Derek Llambias.

The 28-year-old, who has two years left on his current deal, requested a new five-year contract, but that was rejected, fuelling speculation he could leave St James' Park.

West Ham have been monitoring the midfielder's situation, and after having an initial £1.5m bid for Nolan rejected, the Hammers have had an improved bid accepted.

Nolan is in London today, where he is expected to undergo a medical before completing his move, which will see him reunited with former boss Sam Allardyce.

Despite the Hammers' relegation from the Premier league, it seems Nolan has warmed to the idea of dropping down to the Championship to link up with Allardyce, despite enjoying his best season in the Premier league, in which he scored 12 goals.
