NEWCASTLE UNITED'S youngsters failed to reach the sixth round of the FA Youth Cup for the second year in a row last night.

The Magpies' Under-18s succumbed to Manchester United's constant drive for a winner which eventually arrived courtesy of striker Ravel Morrison in the 64th minute.

Newcastle failed to clear competently and Morrison turned to his left before finding the roof of the net with a clinical finish on a night when something special was needed to beat goalkeeper Jak Alnwick.

Despite plenty of effort and purpose before that opener, Newcastle found themselves lucky to escape with just a 1-0 defeat by the final whistle.

Joe Joyce's men had plenty to deal with, with the likes of Ryan Tunnicliffe and Larnell Cole impressive for the Red Devils, but they did go close on a couple of occasions with Dan Taylor's drive at goal the closest they came.
