Spennymoor are now facing the prospect of playing six games in the last twelve days of the Vanarama National League season after their home game with North Ferriby was postponed on Saturday morning.
A referee’s inspection of the Brewery Field found that part of the pitch near one of the penalty areas was still waterlogged, to leave Moors with a very hectic schedule to clinch a play-off place.
Manager Jason Ainsley said; “I couldn’t believe it when I got the news on Saturday morning, especially as the weather had improved.
“Hopefully the pitch will be ok for our home games this week, we have Kidderminster and Darlington to play in midweek. Our squad is going to be stretched to the limit.”
Moors are at Curzon Ashton on Saturday, and then are at home to AFC Telford United a week on Tuesday. The Ferriby game could be re-arranged for Thursday 25th April, Moors’ only realistic free date, before their regular season finishes at home to Southport on the 27th.
Moors dropped to seventh on goal difference on Saturday because of Chorley’s 2-0 home win over Blyth, but Moors have a game in hand on them. Moors are a point ahead of York City with three games in hand, after York lost at ten-man Gainsborough.
Moors were forced to play two home games last week against Boston and Brackley at Harrogate Town’s ground.
