Goals:
1-0: Rodney (18, good touch to get the ball out of his feet and fired a low, angled shot into the corner)
2-0: Cassidy (34, from a half-cleared corner, the striker turned and fired a crisp, rising shot in from 12 yards)
3-0: Oates (44, Newton’s dink into the area headed over a lost goalkeeper by the attacker)
3-1: Greco-Cox (84, low drive from the far side of the goal)
3-2: Edwards (90, header from a yard as the ball was played across goal)
Bookings: Laing (4, foul); Featherstone (73, foul); Cook (75, foul)
Referee: Simeon Lucas (Lancashire): Frustrated both sets of players, with the opposition particularly bewildered by his decision-making at times 5
Attendance: 3,018
Entertainment: 4/5
HARTLEPOOL UNITED (4-3-3):
6 Loach: A commanding presence in his penalty area as Pools defended eight first-half corners and made saves when called upon;
7 George: A rare start, a new position at right-back but showed tenacity and attitude throughout – traits this side often lacks
7 Harrison: Showed what he is capable of as he defended with authority and displayed a confidence lacking at times
7 Laing: Like his defensive partner Harrison, gave a performance which defied some of his other displays in recent weeks
7 Adams: Probably his best and most assured display in a Pools shirt – used the ball well and wasn’t as exposed as he has been recently;
5 Woods: Didn’t really get a hold of the game in midfield, never hid but didn’t stand out this time
5 Featherstone: Pools’ tempo, for once, wasn’t really dictated by the midfield fulcrum as they moved it around quickly
7 Newton: Another to offer his best show of the season. Full of running and closed down the opposition to harass them into mistakes’;
7 Oates: Hasn’t played since January 1 and came back with a spark and energy, a strong performance rewarded with a goal
8 Cassidy: Too strong and wily for the opposition centre-halves, held the ball up well and took his goal in style with an assured finish
8 Rodney: Scored one, could have had four and displayed what he is capable of on his day with a powerful performance.
Sub:
Hawkins (for George 84)

MAN OF THE MATCH Devante Rodney – strong, direct, and took his goal very well. Woking couldn’t handle him
