NORWICH (3-4-1-2):

Gunn 7; Klose 7, Zimmermann 6, Hanley 7; Reed 6, Trybull 8 (Leitner, 60, 6), Tetty 6, Lewis 6; MADDISON 8 (Vrancic, 72); Murphy 7 (Hernandez, 85) Oliveira 6.

Subs (not used): McGovern, Watkins, Stiepermann, Srbeny.

MIDDLESBROUGH (4-4-2):

8 RANDOLPH: Beaten by a very good strike, late on he made an excellent one-handed stop to deny Oliveira

7 Shotton: Proper defending as he put his body on the line to block shots and put in challenges

6 Ayala: Bits of quality combined with a gritty defensive work

6 Gibson: Steady, reliable and hard-working in an organized defensive unit

6 Friend: Dangerous in attack early on but forced back when outnumbered

6 Clayton: Energetic and showed occasional glimpses of attacking threat

6 Leadbitter: Struggled to contain Maddison and enjoyed life better when joined by Howson and had space to ping balls about

5 Traore: Good early effort but did not see much of the ball after that

6 Downing: Good attempt with cheeky lofted effort, but sometimes his touch was heavy

5 Bamford: Did not track runners and efforts he had on goal were hardly convincing

4 Gestede: Stupid sending off just five minutes after being booked, made life difficult for his team

Subs:

6 Howson (for Bamford, 63) Was given a warm reception by the Norwich fans, but there was no fairytale return

Assomblalonga (for Clayton, 83)

(not used): Konstantopoulos (gk), Cranie, Fry, Besic, Harrison.

Man of the Match: DARREN RANDOLPH - Without their goalkeeper, Boro would have taken a beating from a Norwich side infused with confidence and belief after the sending off.
