Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley wants a big improvement in his team’s home form when Alfreton visit the Brewery Field in the Vanarama National League North today.

Moors crashed out of the FA Cup last week at home to Gainsborough Trinity after being a goal up and coasting at half time, which meant that Moors hadn’t won at home for four matches, when they beat Bradford PA on 15th August.

“It was very frustrating to lose last week against Gainsborough,” he said. “We played well in the first half, but didn’t come out of the dressing room in the second half.

“We seem to play better away from home. Perhaps we wouldn’t have lost last week if it was an away game!

“We need to address these home results, we can’t keep relying on our away form. We need to start a little bit better, undoubtedly our away form is better. We need to put better home performances together. We need to win today, especially as we have another fortnight until our next game.”

Ainsley made his squad watch some video highlights of recent games in midweek.

“We talked about a few things on the video. There were some good things and there were some bad things, and we spoke about parts of our play that we could do better. We certainly need to cut out mistakes, we’ve conceded too many goals through our own sloppy play this season. We’ve dropped some poor points.

“But having said that, we’re sixth in the table, and we would have taken that position at the start of the season.”

Alfreton though, will be tough opposition, as they lie four points below Moors, and are unbeaten in their last five league games.

“There are no easy games in this league, especially as Alfreton have brought in a lot of new players during the summer,” said Ainsley.

Midfielder Ryan Hall is still out injured, while striker Brad Fewster is back in the squad after recovering from a hamstring problem.
