NORWICH (3-5-2):
Gunn 5; Martin 5, Zimmermann 4, Franke 4; Wildschut 6 (Murphy 61, 5), Naismith 5 (Hoolahan 77), Reed 4, MADDISON 6, Husband 5; Watkins 5, Jerome 6 (Oliveira 67, 4).
Subs (not used): McGovern (gk), Pinto, Vrancic, Tettey.
SUNDERLAND (4-4-2):
7 Steele: Made a smart second-half save before Martin hit the post, and could not be blamed for Norwich’s goal
7 Jones: Handled Husband’s threat on the overlap and should be a valuable asset at Championship level
8 Browning: Grew in stature as the game went on and made some excellent interventions as Sunderland held on in the closing stages
9 KONE: Led by example throughout, making tackles, winning headers and marshalling those around him in the backline
7 Galloway: Matched Wildschut for pace, and ensured Sunderland were solid down their left-hand flank
6 Honeyman: The quietest of Sunderland’s midfielders, but still put in a decent shift on the right-hand side
8 Cattermole: Did the unglamorous things effectively and ensured Sunderland’s defence was never exposed
8 Ndong: Was here, there and everywhere for much of the afternoon, with his through ball asking questions of the Norwich defence
8 McGeady: Scored a superb goal with a long-range strike and set up Grabban with a magnificent second-half cross
8 Grabban: Took his tally for the season to three with a clinical low finish and a smart back-post header
7 Vaughan: Set up Grabban’s opener with an excellent flick on and troubled the Norwich defence in the air throughout
Subs:
Gibson (for Cattermole, 73)
Gooch (for McGeady, 84)
O’Shea (for Grabban, 86)
(not used): Ruiter (gk), Matthews, Khazri, Asoro.
Man Of The Match: LAMINE KONE – The Sunderland centre-half will be one of the best players in the Championship if the Black Cats can keep him beyond the end of the month.
