Ashton United 1 Spennymoor Town 2.

Spennymoor ended their three game losing run with a revenge 2-1 away win at Ashton United on Saturday.

Moors lost to the same opponents a week previously, but they gave a much better display to win their fourth away game of the season and put them seventh in the table.

“The game was all about a winning result after the three defeats,” said manager Jason Ainsley. “I thought we played well on a difficult surface “We made life hard for ourselves because the game should have been done and dusted. Ashton scored with five minutes left, and we put ourselves under pressure, but we held on.

“The lads have bounced back well, and we can look ahead again.”

Moors took the lead after 22 minutes when James Curtis headed in a Craig Gott corner, and they nearly added a second before half time but Mark Anderson was just off target.

Glen Taylor also had a good chance when he broke clear one-on-one, but his chip over the keeper went wide, and Graeme Armstrong also just missed.

Moors deservedly went 2-0 up on 72 minutes when Kallum Griffiths crossed well from the right for Taylor to beat Ashton keeper Keith Branagan.

Rob Ramshaw hit the bar after that, and all those missed chances nearly came back to haunt Moors when sub Matt Chadwick scored with four minutes left and set up a nervous finish.

Moors: Rafferty, Griffiths, Watson, Gott, Tait, Curtis, Ramshaw, Henry, Taylor (sub Johnson), Armstrong (sub Dowson), Anderson (sub Mitchell) Subs not used: Fisher, Lowson.

Elsewhere in the premier division, Whitby were knocked off the top by a late goal at Rushall Olympic, while Blyth overcame the dismissal of Damon Mullen on 39 minutes to draw 0-0 at home with Buxton.
