MIDDLESBROUGH have agreed a deal with Arsenal to take defender Calum Chambers on loan for the season.

A deal for the 21-year-old, who moved to the Emirates in a £16m deal two years ago, is due to be confirmed after everything was agreed for the versatile player.

As well as playing centre-back he can also play full-back and in midfield and Chambers will provide head coach Aitor Karanka with the extra defensive cover he has been looking for.

Middlesbrough boss Karanka has already been frustrated in the market for Hull's Harry Maguire and James Chester, who has since joined Aston Villa from West Brom.

But Chambers will provide him with much-needed Premier League experience even though he is still a young age.

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, admitted over the weekend that he was willing to let Chambers head somehwere on loan and Middlesbrough have got things done quickly.
