Barwell 1 Spennymoor 1.

Spennymoor manager Jason Ainsley was unhappy about his side’s missed chances, a disallowed goal and a penalty decision in a 1-1 draw at Barwell on Saturday.

Moors had more of the chances against the Leicestershire side, but they couldn’t beat Barwell keeper Max Smith-Varnam in the home goal, but Ainsley wasn’t happy with two refereeing decisions.

“I thought we had enough chances to win two games, but we didn’t take them,” he said. “We have to make sure that we finish teams off.

“I was unhappy that Graeme Armstrong had a goal disallowed, because he got to the ball first and the keeper collided with him, and in the second half a shot by mark Anderson was handled but the referee gave nothing.

“If we’d managed to score a second at 1-0, then we would have gone on to win 3-0 or 4-0.

“It was a frustrating day, because Barwell scored a scruffy goal from our point of view for a point.”

Moors had much the better of the opening stages and took the lead with a low shot by Anderson after 28 minutes, then Andrew Stephenson hit the crossbar.

Armstrong then had a goal disallowed before Barwell equalised through Niall Rowe on 76 minutes.

Moors are at home to Corby Town this afternoon at the Brewery Field, and they welcome back midfielder Craig Gott and striker Andrew Johnson, who both missed yesterday’s game, but defenders Joe Tait and Chris Mason are both unavailable.

Corby’s game against Coalville was abandoned on Saturday because a heavy thunderstorm flooded the pitch midway through the first half.

Moors are tenth in the table, seven places and three points behind Blyth, who won 2-1 at Grantham.

Robbie Dale was their hero. After Michael Richardson put them into the lead, Dale scored the second, and after keeper Peter Jeffries was red carded late in the game, he went in goal and saved the penalty that followed.

Whitby are still unbeaten in four games after they drew 1-1 at Hednesford, new signing Luke Bythway scoring.
