NEWCASTLE UNITED have confirmed attacking duo Aleksandar Mitrovic and Dwight Gayle will miss Saturday's home game with Brighton after suffering concussion during Tuesday's EFL Cup win over Cheltenham Town.
The Football Association's concussion guidelines state that anyone who has suffered concussion must adhere to their "return to play" protocol which stipulates a phased return to action over a six-day period.
As a result, both Mitrovic and Gayle will be unable to face a Brighton side that remain unbeaten in the league this season.
Paul Catterson, Newcastle's Head of Sports Medicine and Science, said: "The treatment and management of concussion in sport has received deserved attention in recent years.
"We have to adhere to the guidelines set out by the FA in line with other competitive sports, which rightly puts the safety and health of players first."
