PADRAIG Amond, who hit 37 goals for Grimsby Town last season, is to become Hartlepool United’s newest recruit.

The striker has rejected a contract offer at Blundell Park and is at Victoria Park for a medical today, before signing.

And Pools have also agreed a new contract with Michael Woods. The midfielder attracted interest from a number of clubs, but is staying at Victoria Park.

Last week, Pools landed centre-half Toto Nsiala from the newly-promoted Mariners.

The Irish forward, 28, has had spells with Accrington and Morecambe before his career took off last season with 30 goals in 40 National League games and 37 in 50 games in all competitions.

He will join Nsiala and midfielder Nicky Deverdics in pushing for a first-team spot in Craig Hignett’s squad next season.

Amond won nine trophies at the club’s player of the year awards last season. Twelve months ago, Pools landed defender Carl Magnay from the Mariners, after he too won a glut of honours after an impressive season.
