YORK CITY slipped to within a point of the League Two relegation zone after Leyton Orient’s enforced hotel break proved successful.

Orient’s players were forced to spend all last week confined to a hotel after their owner, Francesco Becchetti, reacted furiously to their 3-1 defeat at Hartlepool United.

The O’s squad were bused to their nearby training ground to prepare for Saturday’s game, but a double from Jay Simpson helped them claim a 3-2 win.

Simpson’s first goal followed a Mathieu Baudry header and enabled Orient to claim a two-goal advantage as they dominated the early stages.

Middlesbrough loanee Bryn Morris deflected in Vadaine Oliver’s effort to reduce York’s arrears, but Simpson’s second goal restored Orient’s two-goal advantage.

Oliver headed home late on, but York boss Jackie McNamara is still waiting for his first victory since replacing Russ Wilcox.

McNamara said: “I thought they were the better side for the 20 minutes – they started brightly with a good effort early on.

“I thought we came into the game, but I was disappointed again with the early goals we lost. We got a lifeline going into half-time, and I thought there was a real opportunity in the second half to go on and win the match. But we lost another goal.

“We had some good opportunities to score goals, but I’m very angry with the goals we lost.”
