NEWCASTLE (4-2-3-1):

5 Elliot: Made two good saves to deny Vardy, but should have done better as Okazaki bundled home Leicester’s third goal

3 Janmaat: It is all very well charging forward, but sometimes you have to defend – goodness knows what he was doing when Ulloa scored

4 Mbemba:  Started off reasonably brightly, but gradually lost his way and was brushed aside far too easily by Vardy in the second half

4 Coloccini: Couldn’t get to grips with Vardy’s pace and movement, and was equally uncomfortable against the physical Ulloa

3 Dummett: Was repeatedly embarrassed by the impressive Mahrez and suffered something of a meltdown in the second half

5 Tiote: Might things have been different had he not been injured? Probably not, but Newcastle definitely suffered following his departure

6 ANITA: Newcastle’s best player – although that’s not saying a lot. At least he didn’t stop running and making tackles

4 Sissoko: Another ineffective display from a player whose reputation continues to exceed what he actually achieves on the field

5 Perez: One of the few players whose work rate couldn’t be questioned, but he never looked like fashioning an opening

4 Wijnaldum: Looked all at sea when dropped deep to play alongside Anita, and wasn’t any better further forward in the second half

3 Mitrovic: A desperately poor display from a player who appears to be more interested in moaning at centre-halves than scoring

Subs:

3 Thauvin (for Tiote, 19): Looks like even more of a disastrous signing every time he comes onto the pitch – weak and utterly ineffective

4 Cisse (for Mitrovic, 63): Couldn’t change things in the final half hour and took an age to get a shot away when a half-chance came his way

De Jong (for Perez, 81)

(not used): Woodman (gk), Sterry, Lascelles, Gouffran.

LEICESTER (4-3-3):

Schmeichel 6; Simpson 7, Morgan 7, Huth 6, Fuchs 6; Kante 7, Drinkwater 8, Albrighton 7; MAHREZ 9 (Dyer 88), Ulloa 7 (Okazaki 72), Vardy 8 (King 77).

Subs (not used): Schwarzer (gk), De Laet, Schlupp, Inler.

Man Of The Match: RIYAD MAHREZ – Jamie Vardy might be the player making the headlines, but Mahrez’s performances have been every bit as significant in Leicester’s remarkable rise.
