Spennymoor Town have handed youngster Reece Kenney a contract.

Kenney was outstanding in the reserve team last season, and his performances have been good enough to persuade manager Jason Ainsley to include him in his first team squad.

Ainsley said; “He trained all last pre-season with us and looked a real prospect and the year he has had with Carl Beasley in the Wearside League has helped him develop both physically and mentally.

“We believe Reece is ready to compete for a first team place and at 19 years old, he has all the attributes to push on in the new season. As a management team we have monitored him all season and it shows if you work hard and focus you will be given an opportunity.’ Beasley, the reserve team manager, added; “Congratulations to Reece on signing his contract with the club as he thoroughly deserves it. He has come through the youth set up from under 18s into the reserve team and gone from strength to strength.

“In the two seasons he has been with me I can't remember a training session he has missed and the hard work and dedication he puts into his football is paying off. I have no doubt that he will make big strides next season and playing with more experienced players will bring the best out if him.

“He was reserve team club captain last year and we have signed not only a top player but also a down to earth lad with a bright future ahead of him.’
