Scott Harrison, the Hartlepool United centre-half, has named as the Football League’s Young Player of the Month for March.

The former Sunderland and Darlington defender has been given the award, which covers the entire Football League, after being a stand-out performer for Pools of late.

Harrison starred as Pools won as four consecutive games during March. And he also scored the winner in the victory over Cambridge.

Moore, speaking at his press conference this morning, paid tribute to Harrison: “Scott Harrison has done well and the award is deserved. He’s been a revelation for me. He can play up front or at the back and as a defender he’s done fantastically well. It’s credit to him and his family that he’s won it.

“The coaching staff have brought him on and there’s a big future in the game for him, no doubt about it.’’

He added: “He’s been fantastic for the last five or six weeks. “When we’ve been on a good run he’s been our best player. He knows what football is about, he’s been there and seen it.

“I think he’s good enough – if he keeps learning the role and takes on board what Sam (Collins) and I are teaching him – to play at the top level.”

David Wetherall, Head of Youth Development at the Football League, commented: “From the non-league at 16, a Premier League club at 17 and now a Football League regular at 21, Scott has had experiences that will stand him in great stead as his professional career develops.

“On the pitch, Scott has shown a maturity beyond his years with some accomplished performances in the heart of Hartlepool’s defence.”

Each month the accolade is awarded by The Football League to the young player who has made the most significant contribution and impact in First Team football.
