SAMMY AMEOBI last night insisted he is in no mood to go back out on loan despite knowing Newcastle United are hot on the trail of three senior forwards.

Ameobi continued his impressive pre-season form on Tuesday night when he linked up well to create the first goal of a 2-0 win for £9m man Papiss Cisse.

But with manager Alan Pardew confident he will have at least one new attacker on board before the trip to Rangers next Tuesday, Ameobi is expecting competition to intensify when the Premier League starts again on August 17.

Further talks are planned in the next 48 hours to determine whether Newcastle still stand a chance of beating front-runners Fulham to Darren Bent's signature, with the London club prepared to offer more in terms of a fee and wages.

There are also discussions with Queens Park Rangers about a loan deal for Loic Remy, while Pardew refused to rule out a renewed attempt to land Lyon's Bafetimbi Gomis with a £7m offer still on the table despite a breakdown in negotiations.

To add to those, Newcastle have had discussions with AC Milan over promising 18-year-old M'Baye Niang, although the Rossoneri will not sanction a season-long loan with a view to a £7m deal until Champions League qualification has been assured.

Newcastle's failure to bring in at least one new striker has helped Ameobi to play a more prominent role during pre-season, albeit on the left of a three-man forward line.

He spent the back end of last season on loan at Middlesbrough, where he was in and out of the team despite scoring a wonderful goal on his debut, but he has no desire to return to the Championship any time soon.

“I don't want to go out on loan this year, I want to play here,” said Ameobi. “Going out will be a last resort if things don't work out but this is where I want to be. I want to be a success in the Premier League, fingers crossed.

“This is a big season for me, it's make of break. I will either be playing Premier League or further down the leagues. I want to be here at the top level, I've had a good start to pre-season I want to keep that going.”

The 21-year-old has still only made two league starts for Newcastle despite being on the periphery of things since the 2010/11 campaign.

But he thinks the seven starts, nine appearances overall, last season for Middlesbrough helped him to realise more than just talent is required to succeed in the upper echelons of the English game.

“It's been a great start to pre-season for me and (young left-back) Paul Dummett,” said Ameobi. “It's been about the application we have both put in and that's what it's all about really.

“I've always been told I've got good ability but that's not all you need. I have to apply it in the right way and I'm trying to put that in to my game.”

Ameobi is well regarded at Newcastle, but Pardew has already had a word in his ear about the need for him to really kick on.

There have been plenty of glimpses of the England Under-21 international's potential and Pardew thinks there have been indications in the build up to the new season that his advice has been taken on board.

At St Mirren on Tuesday night Ameobi had a particularly bright first half, when his one-touch football and link up play with Cisse provided a real highlight of the 2-0 friendly win.

Pardew said: “I have always had that policy of keeping everyone motivated and everyone with the group and sometimes somebody pops out. At the minute Sammy and Paul Dummett have put their head above the parapet and now they have to stay there. That's the hard bit, staying there. I want Sammy to do that.”
