YORKSHIRE captain Andrew Gale is facing a week on the sidelines.

The Tykes skipper will have a scan on a shoulder injury today to determine whether he needs an injection or not.

If he does, which is expected, then Gale will have to rest for up to five days before he can play again, which means he will miss Thursday’s CB40 game with Sussex at Hove and Sunday’s match with Unicorns at Scarborough in the same competition.

Joe Sayers was named as the club’s vice-captain at the start of the season, although he has been dropped for the county’s last two fixtures, including yesterday’s Clydesdale Bank 40 clash with Derbyshire at Headingley.

Australian Phil Jaques and former skipper Anthony Mc- Grath are the leading candidates for the role should Sayers not regain his place in the side.

Yorkshire continued their unbeaten start to the season in the LV=County Championship on Saturday.

Their match with Hampshire petered out into a tame draw at Headingley.

A stalemate always looked the most likely outcome, with the visitors resuming with a second-innings lead of 49 runs on 21 for one, before rain effectively ended the contest on the final morning.

In all, 24 overs were lost to the weather, with play starting at 12.30pm.

By this stage it was clear that neither side had enough time to try and force a result, with the two teams eventually shaking hands on the draw at ten to five.

Iain Wardlaw was the man to take the wicket for Yorkshire, when he removed Jimmy Adams for 49.

At the close, Michael Carberry and Simon Katich had both reached 61, with the Tykes taking home nine points from the contest and their visitors picking up ten.

Gale commented: “We tried to set something up, but the rain didn’t really allow it.

“They offered us 270 off 45 overs, but we couldn’t really compromise on anything.”

The result means Yorkshire are second in the Division Two table, 14 points behind the leaders Derbyshire.

Their next four-day match is against Northamptonshire at Headingley, starting on May 30.
