Martyn Moxon says he is currently in discussions with potential candidates to become Yorkshire’s new first-team coach.

The process to replace outgoing Jason Gillespie, who is returning home to Australia after five successful years at Headingley, is in the early stages.

It may yet include applications, but Moxon is aiming to have somebody in place later this year to tie in with the start of pre-season training in late November/early December.

“Ideally, we’d have somebody in by then at the latest,” he confirmed.

“I’m just testing the water with a few people. If those discussions come to nothing, then we might have to go to advertisement.

“I’d like to think that we will be doing that in the next couple of weeks if we need to.”

England’s assistant coach Paul Farbrace has already ruled himself out of the running to return, having spent two years as Yorkshire’s second XI coach in 2012 and 2013.

Australian Brad Hodge, Gillespie’s assistant coach at Big Bash team Adelaide Strikers, was the latest to be linked, along with former players Richard Dawson, Chris Silverwood and Anthony McGrath.
