Hetton Lyons fell just ten runs short against the Durham Cricket Academy in the Dukes ECB North East Premier League.

The Academy decided to bat and made 160-9 off 58 overs, with Ross Greenwell top scoring with 50 off 93 balls, including eight fours. Josh Coughlin returned 3-36 and Miles Birbeck 3-26.

The Lyons put on 99 for the first wicket. Coughlin made 83 off 61 balls, including 15 fours and two sixes, but Bilal Baig’s 4-17 stopped them, alongside Scott Steel who returned 3-14.

Champions Chester-le-Street, were beaten for the fifth time this season, at home to Tynemouth. The visitors won the toss and put the Cestrians in to bat and they made a healthy 267-8, with Kyle Davis (97), Andrew Smith (52) and Liam Simpson (46no) scoring well. Henry Malton took 5-66 and Tahir Khan retuned 3-63.

Tynemouth batted brilliantly, making 268-5, thanks mainly to 86 runs from Matthew Brown, 56 from Stuart Poynter and 39 from skipper Ben Debnam, to record an excellent run chase, off 50.3 overs.

Stockton made 221 all out at Eppleton. A fine century from Matthew Gill (101), included 14 fours and three sixes. Opener Tom Hewison added 55, with Alexander Simpson returning 4-45 and Jandre Erasmus 3-46.

Eppleton’s opening bat Luke Henderson scored 146 off 133 balls, including 19 fours and six sixes, in their total of 224-5, off 37.3 overs.

In Division One, Sacriston are still in pole position for promotion, holding a 19-point advantage at the top with two games to go. Blaydon amassed 250-5, thanks to 96 runs from Graham Clark, 58 from Geoff Stewart and 43 not out from Joseph Reynolds.

Sacriston made 232-7, to claim 13 points. Jack Hardy made 59 and Daniel Stephenson 40 and Clark with the ball, claimed 4-50.

Burnopfield who were second, surprisingly lost at Brandon, by nine wickets, the start of the show being Moin Ashraf, who returned 5-50. Burnmoor jumped into second, with a five-wicket win at home to Willington.

At the bottom, Mainsforth look doomed, after they lost by ten wickets at Gateshead Fell, while Seaham Harbour just a place above them, had an exciting tied game at Sunderland, their second tie of the season, where both teams scored 103 all out.

In the Go North East Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League, Lanchester remain fourth after beating Lintz at Ashley Park. The home side won the toss and asked them to bat first. They made only 128 all out, with opener Jonny Foster scoring 68. Aaran Halliday with 3-15 and Sam Crooks 3-9, took the bowling plaudits.

Lancheste’s Graham Brinton scored 57 not out from 66 balls, including 10 fours and Greg Halliday scored 31, in 129-4, from 27 overs.

Leadgate were relegated after they only managed 50 all out at Consett, with Mark Dixon taking 5-17.

At the top, Shotley Bridge are still seven points behind Swalwell. Shotley beat Ashington by 96 runs and Swalwell beat relegated Ponteland by four wickets.

In the Readers Durham Cricket League Castle Eden took a huge step towards the title, when they won at Esh Winning by 29 runs. They scored 167 all out, with Liam Irwin scoring 57 and Paul Chivers returned 3-32 and Eddie Watson 3-27.

Esh Winning fell on 138 all out, thanks mainly to Ryan Ball taking an excellent 5-21. Eden, 36 points in front, play Durham City next week and their last match is at Tudhoe, the two teams directly below them in the league.

Tudhoe badly lost at home to Bill Quay and Durham City could only draw at home to Philadelphia.
