LANCHESTER'S dreams of being the first side to topple NTSL leaders Swalwell must remain just that after an 81-run home beating by the table-toppers.

Chris Hewison was back to his best for the title chasers, cracking 12 fours and 3 sixes in a 136-ball 118 which lifted his side to a 50 over total of 270-5. Three early strikes from Guy Saxton then proved decisive, the paceman returning to pick up two more later in the innings as the Lanchester reply ended in the 40th over on 189.

Shotley Bridge returned to second place in the table, albeit some 23 points behind the leaders, with a seven wicket defeat of Bedlington who already look resigned to their relegation fate. Ryan Pringle (4-31 and 30 not out) lifted the high level Bridge to victory as they cruised past a modest target of 123 in just 14.5 overs.
