There is no doubting the match of the day, with third-placed Annfield Plain entertaining runaway leaders Swalwell.

It is inconceivable that the table-toppers will not make it seven championships in a row - they hold a 64-point lead over second-placed Burnopfield, and a 68-point advantage over today's hosts, although the Plain have a game in hand.

With just eight games to go, including today's, it is highly improbable that they can be caught, with even the odd defeat unlikely to ruffle their feathers.

But Plain have a desire to avenge a mauling from earlier in the season and this game could represent the final chance for any of the distant challengers to put a spoke in the seemingly unstoppable championship wheels of Swalwell.

Back in early May the reverse fixture turned into the mismatch of the day as the champions piled up 349-5 and then bowled a demoralised Plain out for 61.

The teams were level top at the time, with both having won their first three, but while Swalwell sailed on it took time for Plain to recover as they won just once in the next five outings following their flying start.

However, they go into today's match on the back of five consecutive victories, with confidence restored.

Annfield show two changes, with Phil Shield and Chris Graham in for Liam Maddison and Matty Smith, and Swalwell again have a full squad to choose from.

Burnopfield have to reckon without Lawrence Davey for their home game against relegation-threatened Consett who occupy one of the two berths in the drop zone. They do, however, have a game in hand on Percy Main who are just one place and five points above them.

With that in mind Main's trip to rock bottom Lintz carries great significance for both.

The home team are 40 points adrift of today's opponents, and anything less than victory would almost certainly seal Lintz's relegation fate before July is out.

One ray of hope for the hosts is that Ant Ward, David Nevin and Chris Bowes all return.

Still not completely safe, but breathing easier, Ryton travel to Shotley Bridge without skipper Andy Sutton and Peter Moore.

Jason Dale is handed an opportunity while Neil Robinson skippers. The Bridge bring in Chris Wilkinson for altar-bound Peter Greenwell.
