Durham Cricket Academy are into third place in the Dukes ECB North-East Regional Premier League, after a two-wicket win at Tynemouth in a low scoring encounter.

Tynemouth decided to bat first, but with Liam Trevaskis removing both openers and then Haidar Shafiq taking 3-29, the home side slumped to 70-5 and then Scott Steel chipped in with an excellent 4-23, as they managed just 102 all out.

In reply, the Academy were 16-5, with Tahir Khan (2-22) and Finn Lonnberg (3-22), causing mayhem. However, Jamie Dass with 29 runs and Edward Hurst scoring 37, they guided their team home with a 56-run partnership, to reach 104-8.

Hetton Lyons are sixth, after they were held to a draw at home to Whitburn. The Lyons batted first and totalled 239-7 declared, thanks to Dominic Thomson who scored 43 and skipper Jarvis Clay with a rapid 76 off 49 balls, including 11 fours and a six.

Whitburn put on 42 for the first wicket, but were reduced to 135-5, due to Jonathan Malkin taking 3-30. However, Brydon Carse made 47 and then wicketkeeper Ross Carty made 28 not out to save the game.

Eppleton travelled to Felling and came away with a losing draw, after the home side amassed 232 runs. Joshua Mason made 59 and Gary Scott 32.

The visitors were in bother at 64-4. However, Joseph Coyne made a robust 42 not out, off 103 balls to save the game, with his team ending on 129-7.

Chester-le-Street’s title ambitions took a further knock with a home defeat by Newcastle.

The Cestrians only made 71, as Oliver McGee took 5-9 and Callum Harding 3-15 and their teammate and opening batsmen Alasdair Appleby then smashed 51 not out, off 33 balls to win by 10 wickets.

Stockton lost at home to Benwell Hill. They made 141 thanks to Ryan Wallace scoring 57 and a late flurry from Hassan Raza with 36 not out, with Haseeb Azam taking 5-33 and Sameet Brar 4-36 doing the damage.

Steady batting by the Hill, with four of their batsmen reaching their 20s they made 143-5.

First division leaders Sacriston remain unbeaten, comfortably winning at Gateshead Fell by 55 runs. Sacriston made 182-8 thanks to Graeme Bridge who scored 43 and then Melvyn Betts made a very useful 54 not out.

Fell made steady progress, but with Bridge taking 3-31 and Jack Keall 4-6, they collapsed to 127 all out.

At the bottom, Seaham Harbour lost again, this time at Burnopfield by a huge 190-run defeat.

Skipper Gareth Breese scored an excellent 107 with 11 fours and two sixes, off 129 balls, ably assisted by Cole Pearce who made 45, in 235-8, with Jack Lacey and Marc Symington each taking three wickets.

Seaham were skittled for 45, with Laurence Wood taking 5-14 and Neil Killeen 3-7. Michael Nunn carried his bat with 22 not out.

Shotley Bridge are just 14 points behind Go North-East NTSL leaders Swalwell, after 29 run win at home to Ryton.

They batted first and made 154 all out, in which Mick Allen 37 and Ross Andrews made 43 off just 36 balls. Ryton were 41-6, with three wickets apiece for Stuart Graham and Mick Allen.

David Howarth made a game of it and scored 49 off 72 balls, before he was out and then the game was over.

Leadgate were beaten by leaders Swalwell by eight wickets. Only Vihang Ahlawat with 30 runs to his name, showed any resistance as Ross Sinclair with 5-23 and Nick Phillips 3-19, returned excellent figures.

Swalwell opener Chris Hewison scored 65 not out off 69 balls, with a score of 104-2.

Lanchester had an easy home win over Newcastle City and posted 200 runs, with Callum Barnes top scoring on 68 not out. Omar Ahmed made 46 runs opening, but nobody stood with him with Aaran Halliday taking a brilliant 6-27, to win the game bowling out the visitors for 122.

Seaham Park remain top of the Durham Cricket League, eight points ahead of Tudhoe, after they with Littletown.

Seaham made 111, with Martin Stephenson hitting 30 not out, while Archit Goenka took 5-16 and Siddhesh Kinalekar returned 3-32.

Littletown also made 111 all out, with Goenka top scoring with 27 and skipper Bryan Conlon made 11 not out off 51 balls, but could not get inside over the line. There were three wickets each for Dale Shaw, Michael Walker and Andrew Mackensie.

Tudhoe are second, after a 72-run home win over Esh Winning.

The home side batted first and totalled 173 with Ian Grainger making 75 late on in the innings, which proved vital as Eddie Watson took 3-26, with the ball. When the visitors batted, skipper Stuart Hall made 40, but other than that nobody could bat with him, with Alex McGrath taking 3-24.
