ENGLAND will have to bat again in order to win the second Test at Chester-le-Street after Sri Lanka's batsmen continued to frustrate them.
The tourists have moved six runs ahead after finishing the morning session on 403-6.
England have claimed just one wicket in the whole of today's play, with James Anderson removing Milinda Siriwardana in the fifth over.
Siriwardana edged to Alex Hales in the gully to depart for 35, but Dinesh Chandimal and Rangana Herath have combined to add 89 in an unbroken seventh-wicket partnership.
Chandimal was dropped by Jonny Bairstow on 69, with the wicketkeeper failing to claim an inside edge, and the Sri Lankan made the most of his reprieve as he went on to claim his first Test century outside Asia.
He brought up his hundred with a boundary to third man, and finished the morning's play unbeaten on 106.
Herath is 37 not out, with England's bowlers having toiled despite cloudy overhead conditions.
