SIX weeks after his arrival, New Zealander Tom Latham pulled on a Durham shirt yesterday and scored 241 for the second team in a three-day game against the MCC Young Cricketers at High Wycombe.

He batted for most of the first day as Durham reached 417 for four declared with Brydon Carse continuing his development as an all-rounder by making an unbeaten 113. The fourth-wicket stand was worth 316.

After proving his recovery from a foot injury, Latham is now in contention to play for Durham in Friday evening's NatWest T20 Blast at home to Yorkshire.

They also hope to have Mark Wood available once he recovers from his sore heel as he is not in the squad for the fourth Test and is unlikely to regain his place for the three-Test series against the West Indies.

While Paul Collingwood continues to break records in his 22nd year as a first-class cricketer, his successor as Durham's T20 captain, Paul Coughlin, is having mixed fortunes.

In becoming the first player to score a T20 century for Durham at Worcester on Sunday, Collingwood also became the oldest cricketer to score a hundred in the format.

Aged 41 years and 65 days, he was 28 days older than the previous record holder, Graeme Hick, when the ex-Worcestershire batsman scored 110 against against Northamptonshire in 2007.

Mahela Jayawardene, Adam Gilchrist and Sanath Jayasuriya make up the rest of an illustrious top five.

Prior to Sunday, Collingwood had bowled more balls than anyone in this year's Blast without being hit for six.

He has taken eight wickets at 26.0 with an economy rate of 7.7, while the much quicker Coughlin has six wickets at 39.3 and has conceded runs at an alarming 11.23 an over.

Coughlin tops Durham's batting averages, however, with 184 runs at 36.8, and has the best strike rate of 138 runs per 100 balls. Collingwood's figures are 248 runs at 35.4 and both he and Graham Clark have a strike rate of 137, with no-one else anywhere close.

Collingwood has won Durham's Eden Mill Player of the Month award for both May and June. He is division two’s second highest run-scorer with 763 in the Specsavers Championship.
