Durham seal double deal
DURHAM have announced a notable double deal for the 2008 season with the re-signing of West Indies batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul and Australian veteran Michael di Venuto.
Both players will return to the county after successful stints in 2007, Chanderpaul as the official overseas player and Di Venuto as a European Union employee courtesy of an Italian passport.
Chanderpaul played six one-day and four first-class matches in a short spell last season while Di Venuto finished top run-scorer.
Di Venuto, 34, has signed for two more years and will now effectively end his career with the county after retiring from first-class cricket with Tasmania.
Chanderpaul will miss the start of the season due to international commitments but South African all-rounders Neil McKenzie and Albie Morkel will cover his position.
