DURHAM are battling for a dramatic final-day victory after England fast bowler Mark Wood lifted their hopes of success on the final afternoon of the Division Two County Championship match at Derby.
Wood took his fourth wicket of the day in the afternoon session, but determined batting from Matt Critchley, Billy Godleman and Daryn Smit has taken Derbyshire to 228 for 7 at tea, 135 ahead with 36 overs remaining.
Derbyshire started the afternoon session only 21 runs in front with six wickets remaining but Critchley and Godleman added 63 before both fell in consecutive overs to Cameron Steel and James Weighell.
Wood had Hardus Viljoen caught at second slip, but Smit’s unbeaten 30 has given Derbyshire a chance of saving the game.
