NICK Selman followed his match-winning century against Durham at Swansea by defying them throughout the first session of the Specsavers County Championship match at Chester-le-Street.

He lost opening partner Jacques Rudolph in the seventh over but Andrew Salter, promoted to three in the absence of Will Bragg, kept him staunch company as Glamorgan ground their way to 65 for one from 33 overs at lunch.

Glamorgan chose to bat on a glorious morning but were confronted by accurate bowling, particularly from Chris Rushworth, who beat Rudolph several times before trimming the left-hander's off bail with his score on 13.

Salter cut and pulled Barry McCarthy for two fours but was otherwise restrained in reaching 17 at lunch, with Selman on 35.
