MAN of the season Keaton Jennings took two wickets and held a slip catch as Durham reduced Lancashire to 188 for seven at tea.

On a day when four catches have gone down, Jennings has enjoyed the luck which has evaded others, notably Graham Onions and Ben Stokes.

After holding an excellent catch off the day's sixth ball, nothing went right for Stokes. He put down two chances at third slip and remained wicketless, despite beating the bat umpteen times.

Paul Coughlin ended a third-wicket stand of 66 when he had left-hander Luke Procter caught behind, then came a huge bonus when Alviro Petersen was run out for 51.

He was lucky to sky a pull off Onions into space but when he went back for a second run he was beaten by a pinpoint throw from Jack Burnham, coming round from deep square leg.

Jennings, still deputising for Paul Collingwood at first slip, clung on at the second attempt when Karl Brown edged a drive to give Onions a belated reward.

He should have had another with the next ball, but left-hander Tom Moores was badly missed by Stokes.

The 19-year-old son of Peter Moores was making his first-class debut on loan from Nottinghamshire, having scored 137 for their second team against Durham last week.

He was beaten several times before getting off the mark courtesy of a misfield off the 16th ball he faced. On ten he sliced Onions just to the right off Adam Hickey at gully, but the sharp chance didn't stick.

Moores made 25 before he reached for Jennings' fifth ball, leaving him wide of off stump, and edged behind.

Steve Croft pulled Jennings for six on his way to 46 at tea, but the medium pacer claimed a second scalp when Kyle Jarvis popped up a return catch.

With Simon Kerrigan at nine, Lancashire have a fragile tail, although he score 48 as a nightwatchman at Riverside this season.

Jimmy Anderson, due in next, will be replaced by Nathan Buck after the second day.
