PAUL COLLINGWOOD shrugged off the two Durham records he set yesterday and said: “I don't give a monkey's about those. All I care about is winning, so it hasn't been a good day at all.

“On good pitches like this you have to identify key periods and after bowling them out on the first day we had perfect conditions in which to bat them out of the game.

“Everybody got a start but we didn't go on and that allowed them back into the game. Once the pitch starts to wear it's difficult to chase in the fourth innings but I thought the target was reachable. Their bowlers kept bashing away at the cracks and the two balls from Harry Gurney which hit the top off stump started the rot.

“We couldn't find a way to stop it and Brett Hutton has had the game of his life.”

Collingwood admitted things would have been very different had one of two lbw appeals by Ryan Pringle in the day's first two overs been upheld.

“One was very close,” he said. “I bowled Ryan rather than Scott Borthwick because he provides a bit more control when the ball isn't turning off the straight. There was no rough for Scott to bowl into against two right-handers.”

Collingwood does not expect John Hastings to play in the final game at home to Worcestershire, starting on Monday, the day after the final one-day international.

“I'm surprised he has been able to play for Australia,” he said. “He isn't fully fit but the jab he had last week must have done the trick.

“We will probably give another chance to Barry McCarthy. He surprised us with how calm he was under pressure when batting today and I've also been impressed with his bowling.”
