A SENSATIONAL catch by Durham skipper Paul Collingwood to get rid of opposing captain Andrew Gale helped to reduce Yorkshire to 175 for five at tea.

After their big stand against Nottinghamshire last week, Gale and Jack Leaning fell in successive overs to undo much of Yorkshire's hard work.

They had grafted to 124 for two in the 54th over when left-armer Jamie Harrison went round the wicket and splattered Leaning's stumps for 28.

Then Gale, on 22, gloved a John Hastings bouncer and the ball looped high over the slips, apparently heading for safety. But Collingwood, showing remarkable agility for a 39-year-old, sprinted back and somehow plucked the ball out of the air with his right hand while still on the move.

The first wicket to fall in the afternoon was that Alex Lees, who faced 123 balls for 40. He pushed forward and edged Graham Onions to wicketkeeper Michael Richardson.

The third-wicket stand of 42 spanned 24 overs but then three wickets went down for 28 runs. The last to go was Aaron Finch, who drove at his Victoria team-mate Hastings and edged to second slip for ten.

Jonny Bairstow counter-attacked as Onions, the most expensive bowler, slipped below the disciplined standards of the Durham attack.

Bairstow was on 25 at tea with Adil Rashid on 14.
