YORKSHIRE have lost Ashes duo Adam Lyth for a duck and Gary Ballance for 14 during their first-innings reply to Nottinghamshire’s 224 on day two of their LV= County Championship match at Headingley.

Lyth was trapped lbw by Test colleague Stuart Broad three balls into the innings - his first duck in 26 first-class innings dating back to last June.

Australian seamer Ben Hilfenhaus then had Ballance caught at leg gully in the 13th over as Yorkshire fell to 28-2.

Yorkshire have since reached lunch at 35-2 from 15 overs, with Alex Lees and Andrew Gale unbeaten on 11 and one respectively.

Earlier, Notts ninth-wicket pair Luke Wood and Hilfenhaus took their stand to 65 inside 15 overs as the visitors advanced from 169-8 overnight.

They hit five fours and one six apiece in 38 for Wood and 28 for Hilfenhaus before Jack Brooks bowled Wood and Jake Ball in the space of four balls in the 60th over to wrap up the innings.
