JACK Leaning scored his maiden first-class hundred as Yorkshire took a first-innings lead on the third afternoon of their LV= Division One game against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Leaning reached this most memorable of landmarks off 156 balls with 11 fours and a six, and although he was eventually brilliantly stumped by Chris Read off Sami Patel for 116, Yorkshire were still well-placed on 434-8 when the players came in for tea.
In all 112 runs were scored and four wickets fell in an eventful session of play with Rich Pyrah (37) and Andrew Hodd (6) falling to Vernon Philander and the wickets of Tim Bresnan and Leaning being claimed by Samit Patel, who had figures of 3-95 at the break.
Apart from Leaning’s deeply impressive innings, the most enterprising knock was played by Bresnan, who hit six fours in his 49-ball innings of 34.
And although a draw is still the most likely outcome in this match, Yorkshire’s seamers may have the chance to inflict some embarrassment on their hosts if the last two wickets could add another 50 or so runs.
