JOHN Hastings is to return as Durham's overseas player next season with skipper Paul Collingwood saying: “He's been a rock for us in terms of the effort and skill levels he's brought to the team.”
It is hoped he will be able to return after completing the Australian domestic season with Victoria, rather than being subject to a contract with Chennai Superkings.
After helping Durham to the Royal London Cup final he had to miss last Saturday’s final because CSK wanted him in India for the Champions League. But they did not select him for their first two matches.
Hastings, 28, smashed Durham's fastest half-century when he reached 50 from 19 balls against Northamptonshire Steelbacks in a Twenty20 match July.
After arriving at the end of May he hit five half-centuries in all competitions and finished with 65 wickets.
Hastings said: "I could not be happier to have signed at a place that has given me a great amount joy. I can't wait to get back to Durham and lend a hand in pushing for silverware next season. I feel I have a very close bond with the lads.”
Collingwood added: “Along with having a very important role in the team, he's a top bloke and fitted in really well with the squad. His constant enthusiasm and positive attitude will be big assets again next year.”
