CHRIS Rushworth, without a five-wicket haul this season, routed Northamptonshire by taking nine for 52, the second best figures in Durham’s first-class history.

They were also the best in the country this season as the hapless visitors were all out for 83 on a blameless pitch on which Durham made 392.

After Ottis Gibson’s ten for 47 against Hampshire in 2007, the previous second best figures for Durham were also against Northamptonshire. Melvyn Betts took nine for 64 at Wantage Road in 1997 and the only other nine-wicket haul was by Graham Onions at Trent Bridge two years ago, when he ran out the other man.

Northants, long since relegated, were made to follow on and quickly slipped to 18 for two with Rushworth and Ben Stokes taking a wicket each.
