CALUM MacLeod led an afternoon recovery as Durham’s right-handers found batting much easier than the left-handers.

On his Durham four-day debut the Scotsman reached 48 out of a tea total of 199 for six with John Hastings unbeaten on 31, which includes three sixes.

The only man to fall in the session was Michael Richardson, whose stubborn resistance ended with his score on 38 when he played a loose shot and was caught at gully off Tom Smith.

Left-arm spinners Simon Kerrigan and Stephen Parry were unable to trouble the right handers, whereas Kerrigan had gained significant turn from the rough outside off stump to the left-handers.

Ben Stokes had still not arrived from the Oval at tea but will be next in when he does arrive.
