GOLFERS from Ramside Hall will represent Durham in the prestigious England Golf Champion Clubs tournament this weekend.

The Ramside team of Matthew Moore, Matthew Stephenson and Steven Dance will tee-up at East Devon Golf Club on Saturday and Sunday in a bid to be named the best club team in England.

They are flying the flag for Durham County Golf Union after winning the Durham Clubs Championship at Ramside in August.

Ramside’s team won by a single shot from Durham City over 36 holes at the Durham resort.

The tournament came down to the final match on the course with Moore needing to par the final three holes to lift the trophy.

“The Captain let me know the score on the 16th and I’m glad I managed to get it done. I chipped and putted for a par at 17 from a tight spot and lipped out for my birdie on the 18th. The winning putt was about an inch long – and I was pleased about that,” said Moore.

Ramside’s team score of 434 included an excellent five-under par total of 139 (71,68) by John Kirkpatrick, a sports teacher at Durham Sixth Form Centre, a 146 total by Matthew Moore (73,73) and rounds of 75 and 74 by Matthew Stephenson.

Ramside Men’s Captain Trevor Bowman, said: “It’s been a great run for Ramside Golf in recent years. Last year we won three major titles, including the North Durham Union of Golf Clubs league title, and we’ve added another major honour this year.

"We’re heading to Devon looking to enjoy a great golf course and turn in a strong performance at a national final for county and club.”

John Kirkpatrick is unavailable for the England Golf Champion Club Tournament and is replaced by Steven Dance, a former Durham County Strokeplay Champion and six-time Ramside Club Champion.
