LITTLE Lucca Jackson has stunned an international field by breaking a course record at the US Kids Golf European Championship.

The seven-year-old turned on the magic during his final round at Longniddry in East Lothian, shooting a staggering eight-under 28 over the nine holes.

That powered him into second place on the leaderboard with a tournament total of 96 after his opening rounds of 33 and 35.

He finished two shots behind Bristol’s Jaxson Perry but the Seaton Carew youngster stole the show with his final round brilliance.

Lucca’s flawless final nine holes included two eagles at six and seven as well as birdies on the first, second, fifth, eighth and ninth.

Lucca said: “I was very happy overall with my score and I played my socks off. I told my grandad before the last round that I was going to shoot six-under, I went even better than that!”

Jackson won the Most Promising New Talent award at The Northern Echo’s Local Heroes awards last December.

He has continued to progress in 2017 and works hard with his father, and Seaton Carew professional, Clifford Jackson.

Lucca’s favourite golfer is Rickie Fowler and he finished just ahead of an American at Longniddry with his stunning performance in a field of hopefuls from across the world.

Clifford said: “I had never seen anything like it, I was totally amazed by his last round. It was fantastic.

“You turn up to this event and it’s huge. There are golfers from across the globe. There are players from China, Costa Rica, India and some come over with the strength and conditioning coaches and whatever else. Lucca was not fazed by it at all and he was superb.”

He had to play nine holes in each of three days and he was up against 66 others in the sevens and under category.

Cliff added: “We are all so proud as a family with the little man’s achievement. It was a truly awesome display of golf, moving three places from four under after two rounds to a finishing total of -12.”

More than 600 golfers from 50 countries competed in the US Kids European Championships in the different age categories.
