EXTRA incentive for North-East club golfers has been added to the new MacKenzie Masters Series at County Durham club South Moor.

The series has been created in honour of the late Yorkshireman Alister MacKenzie, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

His many course designs included South Moor and Augusta National, home of the US Masters.

South Moor is also one of the UK venues for The 2017 Golf Guide Tour.

At every tour venue the first prize for the winning pair is a free golf trip to Spain.

Golfers entering the tour event at South Moor can also play in the MacKenzie Masters Series.

This gives them the dual incentive of competing in the inaugural Masters series while getting to know the course ahead of the Golf Guide Tour event.

The Masters series starts on Saturday week, May 6, with the first of four monthly Saturday Opens, all individual stablefords.

Any player looking for a Saturday tournament somewhere different can enter directly at http://www.southmoorgc.co.uk/teetimes/

Golfers can check out a choice of Saturday Open dates and pay a £12.50 entry fee on line.

The Golf Guide series tournament offering the winners a free trip to Spain is at South Moor on Friday August 11.

First prize is a three-night stay from November 24-27 at the Tamisa Golf Hotel in the hills above Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol.

The winning pair will play three courses including Cabopino.

All four Masters Saturday Opens will have been played by the time of the Golf Guide Tour event The first prize overall on The Golf Guide Tour is a free trip to the five -star Constance Belle Mare Plage resort in Mauritius.

Initially, that involves playing in at least four of the series tournaments.

The other venues include Bamburgh Castle, Hexham, Ganton, Moortown, Silloth and Hesketh.

The ten pairs with the best average series scores get a free place in the UK Final on the championship links at Hillside, Southport, on Friday October 20.

That will decide which pair wins the free trip to Mauritius.
