WHATEVER Jessica Hall achieves with her talent in the years to come, she will remember 2016 for the northern triple that will be capped with an international honour next month.

The teenager from Witton-le-Wear has already made waves on the county circuit in recent years by breaking records for becoming the youngest champion in the history of Durham Counties Ladies’ Union; winning it back-to-back too.

And not content with that she holds a similar record for being Bishop Auckland Golf Club’s youngest ever ladies champion too, highlighting her potential before going on to national stages this season.

Hall has celebrating a hat-trick on the golf scene this year too, to really make people sit up and take notice before following her achievements up with a stunning finish to earn a call-up for her country.

After winning the North of England Schools’ Championship, she was the star turn at the North Region Ladies & Girls Close Championship at Ponteland. Not only did she win the 16-18 year age group, the total earned her the overall prize ranging from under-14s up to over-18s.

Hall finished with a three under par total for 36 holes to narrowly beat Cleckheaton’s Olivia Hamilton. Hall said: “I was really pleased because it was another good performance in what has been a good year.

“I was behind by one after the first 18 holes and I was three over at the turn in the second round. But after I returned par on the 11th, I birdied four of the last six holes to win by a shot from Olivia.

“There have been a few good days like that this year and I am really pleased with how things are going. I just want them to continue because I am really enjoying my golf.”

It has shown in terms of Hall’s handicap too, which is down to a staggering + 0.1 – the first time it has been positive – and she been competing in the Girls’ British Open Amateur Championship in North Wales this week.

Hall’s appearance at Royal St David’s will be followed by a trip down to Bristol next week before a little rest comes along until she heads to represent England Schools against Scotland Schools at Fairhaven on September 12.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” said Hall. “I do a lot of travelling around because of my golf, we go all over the place. My mum and dad take me all over the place, I appreciate all the miles they do.”

Hall, crowned North of England Schools’ No 1 earlier this summer, earned international recognition by finishing third at the English Schools’ National Championship at Belton Park in June.

It represented another sign of her progress, which is the first year she has been at Durham Sixth Form College forming part of the golf academy and doing a BTEC sport course.

“It’s been good for me, I have got one year left and we go to Ramside with PGA professional Kevin Jackson as part of the course, we go a few times a week and up to Scotland too,” said Hall, a former Barnard Castle School pupil.

“I go to see my coach, Brian Ridley, Beamish Park Hotel as well, I have been going to see him a long time and I’m already starting to work on a few swing things that we have looked at.

“I became a member at Bishop Auckland when I was nine after I used go along with my brother, George, and my dad, Graham. Now my mam, Carolynne, and dad take me all over the place and I just want to keep getting better.

“I’m not sure what I will do when I leave college, maybe go to university or take a year out, I’m not sure. I want to play on Tour, that would be the aim, but I’m just going to see how things go over the next few years.”
