CATTERICK Golf Club got the new season underway when the new captains celebrated with a charity Drive-In.

Former soldier Brian de la Haye, the new captain, and new lady captain Val Pringle drove off at the start of a fun day’s golf to raise money for their chosen charity, the MRI Scanner for the Friarage hospital.

With some fun chipping, putting, and nearest the pin competitions as well as a team golf event and a charity raffle, a total of £460 was raised.

De la Haye said: “We are just delighted with the day’s result which marks a great start to our fundraising this year for such an important project which will benefit so many locally.”

Catterick will be running a number of new events this year including a SpeedGolf and Night Golf competition as well as partnering Bedale and Richmond Golf Clubs in the inaugural Dales Golf Festival in August.

SOME of the region’s sporting celebrities have been confirmed as some of the golfers set to compete in the inaugural South Moor Masters later this year.

Former Newcastle stars Peter Beardsley, Lee Clark and John Anderson as well as Billy Hardy, Neil Killeen, Glenn McCrory and Ritchie Pitt have agreed to take part on Wednesday, June 1.

They have been invited along with others for a tournament designed to draw attention to the fact South Moor’s course was designed by the same man who created Augusta National, Dr Alister MacKenzie.
