DARLINGTON’S Callum Tarren went to the Far East and showed plenty of promise – and he was not the only one!

Tarren, along with Teessider Michael Skelton, finished tied fourth in the PINGAN Bank China PGA Tour global qualifying tournament after four solid rounds of golf.

He carded 71, 70, 73 and 72 to end on two under par at the Kunming Wind Valley Club in Yunnan Province. That was five shots shy of American winner Charlie Saxon and South Korean Bio Kim.

Skelton finished superbly with back-to-back 69s to recover from a disappointing start which left him ending the final day on four over.

Both Tarren and Skelton’s finishes have earned them one of the 15 places that earn full exempt status for the 2016 Series’ season. If they can perform well in 2016 it could tee up a place in the Web.com PGA Tour, which is beneath the mainstream PGA Tour in USA.

ANDREW WILSON had a big say in helping England to clinch the Costa Ballena Quadrangular Tournament in Spain for the fifth time.

Wilson, from Darlington and attached to The Wynyard Club, and the rest of the team were on top form throughout the championship, defeating Finland, Germany and finally Spain by the same scoreline of 7-2.

Lead coach Paul Ashwell said: “The week has gone very well. We have had a great team spirit, a lot of fun and the standard of golf has been excellent. I’m very proud of everyone involved.

“It’s a great way to start the year and the players will all have lots of positives to take into their early-season events.”

Wilson was joined on the team by England Golf’s A squad team-mates Ben Amor (Marlborough), Scott Gregory (Corhampton), Josh Hilleard (Farrington Park), Will Enefer (Wrekin) and Will Whiteoak (Shipley).

England last won this trophy in 2014 and lost on countback to Spain last year. Their previous victories were in 2001, 2005 and 2006.

Wilson halved his foursomes game with Whiteoak against Finland before winning his singles 3&1. The WW combination then won together again against Germany before Wilson won his singles 4&3.

Then in the final game the North-East representative on show lost both his foursomes and singles, but England still clinched an impressive 7-2 win to clinch the title.
