MASHAM GC have raised more than £12,000 for charity after a memorable 2015 for the outgoing captains.

There was a very good turnout of club members to hear the cash boost for the Multiple Sclerosis Society (Teesside).

Both past captains, Ros Casson and Graham Lawson, decided to help the charity after it had been revealed Ed Falshaw, a young member of the club in his mid-twenties, had been diagnosed with the illness.

Ed, who was down to a very respectable seven handicap, was only too pleased to spearhead the charity, working alongside the MS (Teesside) co-ordinator Keith Craven. Last July, Ed’s father, Howard, took on the enormous challenge of organising a day of golf, cycling, barbecue, music and a spectacular fireworks display.

Ed came up with the idea of playing 18 holes at Teesside GC before cycling 50 miles to Masham Golf Club and playing another 18 holes, then celebrating the achievement with the barbecue and fireworks donated by Malcolm Jameson. Tesco (Northallerton) provided a welcome stop for refreshments.

Graham and Ros were very pleased to hand over a cheque for £12,247 to Keith, who, on behalf of Multiple Sclerosis (Teesside), expressed his thanks to Masham for such the gift and explained the many ways the money will go towards supporting people with MS.

New captains Barry Stead and Jackie French have chosen the Alzheimer’s Society (Yorkshire and the Humber) for 2016. The two bunkers on the sixth will be the “penalty” areas this year.
