TEENAGE boxer Georgia O'Connor is feeling well prepared as she gets ready to head to Turkey for the European Women's Youth and Junior Championships.

Georgia, who will be competing in the 70kg weight category, won a bronze medal last year and feels more prepared this time around ahead of the trip to Ordu.

The 16-year-old said: "I was really nervous when I went there last year, it was after all my first time away from home.

"I know what to expect now and have had great preparation, not only in Sheffield with Amanda Coulson and the rest of the squad, but back home in Durham. I’ve practically given up my entire summer break to prepare for this."

The Durham Johnston Sixth Form pupil is already a three-time National Junior boxing champion and expressed the need for a good performance in the competition which begins on September 18.

She said: "A medal is a medal but to go and perform is also important – winning gold would be nice though.

"This will be tough though as they are more experienced but the prep time I’ve had stands me in good stead."

Georgia, who hopes to go to the Olympic Games in 2020, is away from September 17-26 and then will head to Sweden in February for the Golden Girl Championships.
