Miller fumes at below par show
GATESHEAD Harrier Stephen
Miller was left fuming last night
after a below-par showing at the
Paralympic World Cup in
Manchester yesterday.
The 27-year-old, who is the
current world record holder in
the F32/51 club and became
Britainfs youngest disability
international back in 1996, was
forced to settle for silver.
Tunisian Mouradi Idoudi
threw a personal best of 32.59m
in the club to snatch the gold
medal from a shocked Miller,
who finished second on the
podium after a best effort of
31.42m.
Miller, who lives in
Cramlington and is a Newcastle
United fan, is aiming to win a
fourth Paralympic Games gold
medal in China in September.
But after his showing in
Manchester, Miller admitted itfs
back to the drawing board this
summer as the countdown to
Beijing continues.
gI am not particularly happy
with my silver medal I would
have liked to have thrown a bit
further,h said Miller.
gBut then to get beat on the
last throw of the competition is
a bit hard to take but that is the
way it goes.
gI have already qualified for
Beijing, it has been a good
competition, I knew that guy
had a good throw and I wasnft
as good as him.
gHe deserved to win and
know I am not 100 per cent fit at
the minute. I have got a hip
injury which affected my throw,
so considering that it is pretty
good.
gIn Beijing obviously I would
like to try and break my own
world record again and get my
fourth gold in a row, that is my
target and that is what I am
going to do.h
The Paralympic World Cup is
hosted by the British Paralympic
Association. It is sanctioned by the
IPC and IWBF, and supported by
UK Sport, Manchester City
Council and the Northwest
Regional Development Agency
(NWDA).
