Swinburn wins again
MORPETH Harrier Nick Swinburn
continued his winning sequence
with a hard-fought victory
in yesterday's North Tyneside
10K.
The 19-year-old Bangor University
undergraduate, who
helped the North-East win the
UK Inter Counties team championship
eight days previously and
was a member of the victorious
Morpeth team in the Elswick
Good Friday Relays, made a successful
break 400 metres from the
finish to beat clubmate Nathan
Shrubb by two seconds.
Swinburn was one of five runners
to break clear of the 1600-
strong field early in the race and
going into the final quarter of a
mile was challenged by Shrubb
and defending champion James
Buis, of Heaton Harriers.
Swinburn, the Great Britain
junior fell running champion,
produced the strongest finish,
however, to cross the finish line
in a modest 33 mins 21 secs.
The women's race was won by
Gateshead Harrier Jessica Trowbridge.
She beat Edinburgh
Marathon runner-up Angela
Hibbs, who has left Claremont to
join powerful women's outfit
Chester-le-Street, by a comfortable
51 seconds with a winning
time of 37 mins 17 secs.
