Milestone for Brian
TEN-TIMES North-East cross
country gold medallist Brian
Rushworth, 45, becomes the oldest
ever athlete to represent the
region in today's Inter Counties
Championships at Nottingham.
For the second time in his career

Alder, who won the regional senior
men's cross country title
nine times and was 44 when he
last appeared in the Inter Counties
event.
Rushworth, who has won six
North-East veterans titles since
moving into the over-40s, earned
his selection at Woolaton Park
today by finishing third in the
North-East Cross Country
Championships at Hartlepool.
The Wearside college lecturer
takes his place in a strong nineman
team which includes clubmate
and double North-East
champion Mark Hood, who has
won two England vests since his
triumph at Hartlepool.
The North-East will be without
Dominic Bannister, who is
replaced by Gosforth's USAbased
Lewis Timmins, while
New Marske Harrier Lewis Gamble-
Thompson makes his debut.
Team: Ian Hudspith, Nick Swinburn, Chris
Sampson and Mark Brown (Morpeth), Mark
Hood and Brian Rushworth (Sunderland),
Lewis Timmins (Gosforth), Lewis Gamble-
Thompson (New Marske), David Wardle
(Woodford Green).

North-East women's team all
make their Inter Counties debuts
- Maxine Czarnecka and

and Gateshead Harriers Jess
Trowbridge and Charlotte Wickham.
They are joined by Sonia
Thomas (Sale), Ashley Gibson
(Elswick), Jayne Mooney (Morpeth)
