Lack of races doesn’t worry Chambers

DWAIN Chambers does not believe his chances of challenging for the world indoor 60 metres crown in Valencia will have been harmed by not having raced for a month.

Chambers has not had a warmup race since winning the British trials on February 9 as European meeting promoters have frozen him out following his return from a drugs ban.

I've rested and got myself in the right frame of mind,'' said Chambers, competing in his first world indoor championships.

The sprinter is expected to dominate the headlines during the 60m heats on the opening day, even if Kelly Sotherton takes the pentathlon gold medal.

Chambers revealed he had been treated the same as his team-mates by UK Athletics performance director Dave Collins and his coaching staff.

But Chambers admitted any communication with UKA chief executive Niels de Vos and other officials had not been so straightforward.

Chambers said: They've been liaising with my lawyers so I've just got to keep myself out of it and do things the right way.'' There are some who think UKA's opposition to Chambers rings hollow as they have not taken the same stance against Carl Myerscough, who has also served a drugs ban.

Myerscough will today make his bid to reach the shot putt final even before Chambers has taken to the track.
